Works are being planned to replace the existing bollards at the raised tables on High Street and Jury Street in Warwick later this month.
Contractors will be on site for one day on Monday 25 February – after the morning rush hour – to carry out the works. Temporary traffic signals will be in operation to ensure that these works are carried out safely, and some traffic disruption is expected but it is hoped this will be kept to a minimum during the day.
The works have been agreed following consultation with The Chamber of Trade and local businesses in order to avoid coinciding with planned events in and around the town.

Church Street/Castle Street/Jury Street Raised Table Remedial Measures
Update 9th October 2012
Remedial Measures were completed on Swan Street/High Street raised table in August to rectify a design issue and repair loose block paving. It is now our intention to carry out similar works at Church Street/Castle Street/Jury Street raised table and we are asking for your continued support and co-operation to enable us to complete these works.
High Street/Jury Street will be closed to all traffic from:
Monday 22 October 2012 from 07.00 hrs till Friday 26 October 2012 at 17.00 hrs.
Access to frontages and Businesses will be maintained along High Street and Jury Street from both ends, however the junction of Church Street/Castle Street/Jury Street will be closed to all through traffic.
Swan Street will remain open and can be accessed from the southwest approach during the works until 16.00 hrs on Thursday 25 October, when it will be closed for the MOP preparations.
The parking bays on High Street between Church Street and Swan Street will be suspended for the duration of the works; all other parking bays will remain in operation.

Update 16/08/2012
Warwickshire County Council have been considering carrying out the resurfacing of High Street/Jury Street over the August Bank Holiday.
After careful consideration and discussions with Traders/Businesses and Residents we have decided that this work can be postponed to later in the year.
Further information regarding the future date for the resurfacing works will be notified September in a Press Release.

Update 28th June 2012
High Street/Jury Street completion works
Work to improveWarwick’sHigh St/Jury StinWarwickhas been substantially completed following this week’s resurfacing works.
Arrangements have been made to clear the site today (Thursday) and sweep the surplus loose chippings from the carriageway and footways in preparation for the Olympic Torch Relay on Sunday (July 1).
Additional work to finalise the improvements will be required in the coming weeks due to a technical issue with the road surface.
A Warwickshire County Council spokesman said: “There has been an issue with the resurfacing which resulted in excessive loss of chippings. We are currently in discussion with the contractor to establish the cause of the problem and how it can be best rectified. The extent and timing of the corrective works have yet to be determined, but will be planned in detail to minimise further disruption.
“We would like to thank all residents, businesses and motorists for their continued patience and ongoing support with these improvements. We will ensure that any future works are carried out as quickly as possible to minimise further disruption.
“Once the final stage is complete, High Street and Jury Street will be much more user-friendly for pedestrians and have considerable long-term benefits for the town.”

Update 22nd June 2012
Warwick. County Highways will be starting their planned resurfacing works on Monday 25th June at 09.30am and should be completed in the next 4 days we have programmed, subject to weather. The planned works include resurfacing and remedial works along High Street andJury Street,Warwick.
Please be advised that the works on Monday will run into the evening, but should be completed by 21.00pm.Tuesday and Wednesday, Thursday will start at 05.00am to 07.00am, and then restart at 09.30am to 15.30pm, there will be some evening works commencing at 18.00pm to 21.00pm
All the parking bays will be suspended for the duration of the works from early Sunday evening on the 24th June 18.00 pm to late Thursday evening on the 27th June.
Traffic Management will operate along High Street andJury Streetwhilst the works are on going.
Arrangements are being made for residents who currently park in W2 to be allowed to park in the W1 Area, whilst the works are being carried out. I apologise if this may cause some businesses or residents any problems during this time.

Update 28th May 2012
The last half of the raised crossing outside Lord Leycester Hotel is completely Kerbs with the concrete poured last Friday.
All remaining end-of-parking bay features near Lord Leycester Hotel have been completely kerbed with concrete poured on Friday..
McVeigh intend to complete the paving works associated with the above on Monday and Tuesday this week, seal the blocks before they leave site on Tuesday and open the feature up on Wednesday at some point in the day.
We are still on programme to complete by Friday this week as planned.
IMPORTANT
McVeigh intend to complete the Swan St remedial (removal of expansion joint) on Wednesday evening this week. They intend to start the work at 5pm and complete the remedial and seal the blocks within a couple of hours. In order to do this, Swan Street will be closed from 5pm on Wednesday 30th and re-opened once the sealant has cured, which will be 7am the following morning. We are sorry for any inconvenienced caused. Access for businesses will remain open.

Update 11th May 2012
At the Swan Street junction all kerbs and slot drains have been complete, and all concrete poured for the base.
Workers are currently block paving. Once they have completed the paving on the raised table, they will pave the adjoining footpath.
At the Back Lane Pedestrian Crossing all Kerbs have been complete and all concrete poured for the base.This feature is ready to be block paved once the they have completed the above raised table 1 paving.
At the Church St junction all kerbs and slot drains have been complete, and all concrete poured for the base. Workers are currently block paving. Once they have completed the paving on the raised table, they will pave the adjoining footpath.
The programme is approximately 2 days behind programme, McVeigh intend to work Saturday and Sunday to catch up.

Update 03rd May 2012
As predicted, the traffic has settled into a wider disruption around the town. We still have peak time delays, but drivers are allowing more time for their journeys, and the queues are much shorter than those experienced on Thursday last week.
Work is progressing well, despite the unusually inclement weather.
At the Swan Street junction the excavation for the second half of the raised table is complete, the kerbs on the slitter island are complete and the kerbs and drainage elsewhere partially compete.
The Church Street junction is also progressing well. We are currently 2 days behind schedule due to the weather, but are confident this can be addressed during the rest of the contract period.

What on Earth Happened Yesterday?
Yesterday’s dreadful traffic congestion around Warwick was the result of a perfect storm of events. On Tuesday, Kings, Warwick and the prep schools went back following the Easter holidays, bringing with it additional traffic to the network. Up until that time, the diversion had worked for several weeks. On Wednesday, second day back, we had the most horrendous rain, and the extra traffic from both situations caused particularly bad delays on the Birmingham road (back to Kenilworth). The queues were also lengthy on West Street. The decision was made to close the Butts under an emergency order northbound. This gave the junction at the Punchbowl more capacity to reduce the hold ups down Saltisford and beyond. We could also re-phase the lights at Eastgate to allow more vehicles through.
However we could see on the CCTV screens that drivers who had been stuck in the traffic on Wednesday decided to try another route yesterday, ie down the motorway. This caused grid lock to the whole of the east of Warwick, Barford and Tachbrook and caused the 2 hours delay. There was also a very unfortunate road traffic accident near the bus station, which also contributed to congestion on West Street just before lunchtime.
We felt that once people went back to their normal routes, the impact would be reduced and today, despite the rain, this appears to be the case, with some delays – not ideal but what we could expect with roadworks – spread more evenly around the town.
We would like to apologise for the delays being experienced by drivers, and would ask that you bear with us until the works are complete at the end of May. We will keep a close eye on how the traffic is coping and react if necessary.

Update 25th April 2012
McVeigh’s are using two gangs of operatives to work on opposite sides of both the Swan Street and Castle Street junctions at the same time, in order to reduce the overall programme of works as much as possible. Ground works, drainage and concrete slabs are in place at both junctions, and the paving sets are now being laid. The works are currently 1 day behind programme.
On Thursday 26th April works will commence on the opposite sides of the road at these junctions. Swan Street and Castle Street will re-open and Back Lane and Church Street will closed.
Please note *** The project team have been notified that Severn Trent need to carry out an emergency repair to a water main near the Lazy Cow junction on Theatre Street. The works will take place this weekend (28 and 29 April) under 3 way lights. It is anticipated that this will not affect the High St/Jury St works, however should the repair work overrun it would have an impact on the traffic management and diversion routes in place.

Update 03rd April 2012
The Brooke Street works are due to be completed on Thursday 5th April which is nicely to programme. Some bollards will be installed at a later date as delivery has been delayed.
All traffic lights will be removed for the Easter weekend.
Work will start again after Easter on the Tuesday when works will commence on the removal of the existing crossing and the installation of the raised crossing at Swan street and Castle Street.

Works to High Street and Jury Street in Warwick is the most recent project in a programme of works designed to reduce the impact on traffic on the town. A Town Forum was set up some years ago to look at finding solutions that were acceptable to residents and businesses and after tireless work by many enthusiastic volunteers, the proposals shown in the attached plans were finally agreed at the County Council’s Warwick Area Committee in November 2011.
The plans (pdf, 844kb) show several new raised, wide crossing points together with new parking bays using both sides of the road. Materials that are in keeping with the fine setting will be used.
Starting on 12th March, works are programmed to be substantially complete by 1st June 2012.
